Privacy Policy — BEGIN

BEGIN has no account and no servers of its own. Your alarms, mornings, and nights stay on your iPhone.

To keep the app working, BEGIN sends anonymous crash reports and usage events, and Apple handles purchases. None of it is linked to you, used for advertising, tracking you across apps, or sold.

Camera images and microphone audio are processed on your device and are never recorded, stored, or sent.

BEGIN: Wake to Action is published by BetterBodyLabs, which also runs betterbody.tech. This policy covers the BEGIN app. The website has a separate policy at betterbody.tech/privacy.

BEGIN stores these on your iPhone only:

• Alarms, missions, and registered scan codes.
• Focus Mode checkpoints, morning history, streaks, and settings.
• Sleep nights, including the counts of snoring, coughing, and sleep talking.
• Your App Blocker choices, kept as private tokens from Apple's Screen Time.

The Home Screen widget reads some of this through a private App Group on your device.

BEGIN does not maintain a server-side copy of your data. Deleting the app removes its local data from the device, subject to Apple's device backup and restore behavior.

BEGIN sends only the following, to keep the app working and improve it:

• Crash reports and errors, to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.): the error, the app version, the device model, and the iOS version. No name, email, alarm text, or IP-based location is attached.
• Anonymous usage events, to PostHog (PostHog, Inc.), such as "an alarm was saved" or "a mission was finished", with a random identifier that is not linked to you. No alarm names or times, scan codes, camera images, or audio are sent, and location lookup is turned off.
• Purchases, made through Apple and managed by RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.), to know whether your iPhone has BEGIN PRO. RevenueCat receives Apple's purchase receipt and an anonymous app user ID. BEGIN never sees your payment details.

None of this is used for advertising or to track you across apps, and none of it is sold. We use no advertising SDKs.

Crash and usage data are kept by Sentry and PostHog for their standard retention periods. Because they are not linked to you, we cannot match them to a person. Questions: write to the email below.

The front camera counts squats and push-ups. The back camera scans a QR or barcode you registered. The camera runs only while registering a scan code, practicing a mission or checkpoint, completing a wake mission, or verifying a checkpoint.

Frames are processed live on your device and are never recorded, saved, or transmitted.

When camera access is unavailable during an active wake mission, Math is offered as a fallback.

The microphone is used only while sleep tracking is on and you have chosen at least one sound to count. It is analysed live on your device to count snoring, coughing, and sleep talking.

Audio is never recorded, stored, or sent. Only the counts are kept, on your iPhone. With every sound turned off, the microphone is not used.

If you turn on the App Blocker, Apple's Screen Time lets you choose apps to lock. BEGIN receives only private tokens from Apple and cannot tell which apps you chose.

Nothing about your app use leaves your device. The App Blocker is off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time.

Motion sensors are used for Shake missions and phone-shake checkpoint verification. Motion data stays on your device and is never stored or sent.

Alarms use Apple's AlarmKit. Local notifications are used for bedtime and Focus Mode reminders. All are handled by iOS on your device.

You can revoke camera, microphone, Screen Time, alarm, and notification permissions in your iPhone's Settings. Features that need a disabled permission will no longer work.

BEGIN is not directed specifically to children. BEGIN does not collect personal data from anyone, including children.

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
